JEFFERSON, La. – The Huey P. Long Bridge will close for 48 hours this weekend for removal of the old lanes on the bridge. The closure is scheduled to begin at midnight Friday night/Saturday morning and will be completed by midnight Sunday night/Monday morning.
Drivers can use the Crescent City Connection or the I-310 Bridge at Lulling as alternate river crossings. Emergency vehicles will be able to use the Huey P. Long Bridge during the closure.
The completed Huey P. Long Bridge Widening Project will include three 11-foot lanes in each direction featuring eight-foot outside and two-foot inside shoulders. The total width will more than double from the current 18-foot wide driving surface to a 43-foot wide driving surface. Additionally, new intersections with traffic signals at Bridge City Avenue and Jefferson Highway are being constructed.
The entire project is scheduled for completion in 2013. For more information, visit www.hueypbridge.com or follow the project on Facebook and Twitter.
