Just two months ago, Jefferson Parish said a bittersweet goodbye to our Jefferson Parish Schools Superintendent, Cade Brumley. What we described then as more of a bite of a sweet tart than a snickers bar was, in fact, a great move for Louisiana as it gained a brilliant State Superintendent of Education.
Jefferson’s School Board acted swiftly in naming Dr. James Gray as the new top educator, keeping intact the executive team established by Brumley (minus two who are now working in the state office). Gray’s resume is outstanding and as an architect of Brumley’s 2024 plan, the right choice to execute the ambitious strategy for student success. Last week, Dr. Gray announced the Start Strong Jefferson Plan to reopen schools and get children back into learning environments.
We applaud Dr. Gray and his team for developing a comprehensive plan that addresses each age group and situation uniquely. The program of entry offers in-class and virtual options, while understanding that safety comes first. The plan puts an emphasis on personal protection equipment and technology which we recognize that the business and philanthropic community may be called upon for financial resources to supplement the needs.
“We cherish and celebrate our teachers, the mentors of our respective childhoods and hero’s of our children’s future. Likewise, it is important for the community to stand untied with our new leadership, teachers, and parents to be the champions our students deserve. It is time to get back to the books and the business of ABC and 123,” said Todd Murphy, President of the Jefferson Chamber.
