METAIRIE, LA – The Jefferson Chamber of Commerce
will host its Annual Meeting, presented by Ochsner Health System, on Thursday,
February 7 at the Crowne Plaza New Orleans Airport Hotel. As one of the
Chamber’s largest networking and social events, the Annual Meeting serves as an
opportunity to celebrate the many accomplishments from the past year and
announce exciting plans for initiatives, events and advocacy in 2019.
The 2019 Annual Meeting Panel will focus on how strengthening a public school
system can transform a community for a bright future. John White, Louisiana
State Superintendent, and Dr. Cade Brumley, Jefferson Parish
Superintendent, will address more than 400 business, community and civic
leaders at the event. Carrie Monica, Executive Director of Stand Louisiana,
will moderate the panel.
White launched Louisiana Believes, the state’s plan to ensure every child is on
track to a college degree or a professional career. Throughout the past 6 years
as Louisiana State Superintendent, some of the initiatives White has worked on
have been to unify the state’s fragmented early childhood system, modernize curriculum,
and professionalize the preparation of educators. He was named Louisiana State
Superintendent in January 2012.
Dr. Brumley led the Jefferson Parish Public
School System (JPPSS) in adopting a district-wide Tier 1 curriculum, which
equips all schools with the highest-rated learning resources available during
his first year as Jefferson Parish Superintendent. He also created a
Transformation Network to provide extra support and resources for our
highest-need schools as part of an equity agenda, and secured nearly $2 million
in additional funding for these students and educators. He was appointed
Jefferson Parish Superintendent in March 2018.
The Chamber will also present the Ambassador of the Year Award, Board Member of
the Year Award, President’s Award and Chairman’s Award, and will recognize the
change in leadership from 2018 Board Chairman, Nick Karl of Peoples Health to
2019 Board Chairman, Ryan Daul of Daul Insurance.
Networking begins at 8 a.m. followed by the program and breakfast from 9 to 11
a.m. Individual member tickets are $85 and non-member tickets are $125. For
