NEW ORLEANS – On June 28, 2012 the Al Copeland Foundation (ACF) and other local businesses will turn to social media in hopes to raise funds and create awareness for local cancer research.
Why June 28th: In 1989, the $1 million Alvin C. Copeland Endowed Chair of Franchising was established at Louisiana State University. As a result, June 28, 1989 was named “Al Copeland Day” in both the city of New Orleans and the state of Louisiana.
The Al Copeland Foundation, which was established when Mr. Copeland was diagnosed with cancer, has recently turned to social media to gain more followers to create awareness for cancer. This year, Oceana Grill, Jerry Christopher, Fat Tuesday/New Orleans Daiquiris, PJ’s/New Orleans Roast Coffee, Copeland’s of New Orleans and Copeland’s Cheesecake Bistro are partnering with ACF to celebrate Al Copeland Day and raise funds for local cancer research.
On June 28th, the Al Copeland Foundation’s Facebook status will read: “Al’s last two wishes were to break the world’s propelled speedboat record of 220.5 mph and to find a cure for cancer. While Al, Jr. perseveres in the quest to break the speedboat record, ACF continues to provide support and funding for local cancer research in hopes to fulfill Big Al’s final wish. “Like” or “share” this status if you support our efforts to fulfill Big Al’s final wish to find a cure for Cancer. For every “like”, Oceana Grill, Jerry Christopher, Fat Tuesday/New Orleans Daiquiris, PJ’s/New Orleans Roast Coffee, Copeland’s of New Orleans and Copeland’s Cheesecake Bistro will donate 10 cents to local cancer research. For every “share”, each company will donate 25 cents! Take the time, do your part and Change the Course of Cancer.”
“We truly appreciate the businesses that have teamed up with the Al Copeland Foundation and all of our followers who are assisting ACF in striving to create awareness and raise funds for local cancer research,” said Al Copeland Jr. Chairman of the Board for Al Copeland investments and son of Al Copeland. “Social media has grown so much over time. It seems to be the best way to reach the maximum amount of people and make cancer awareness go viral through the Al Copeland Foundation.”
The Al Copeland Foundation requests all those on Facebook to “like” the ACF Facebook page, “like” and “share” their status on June 28th through July 2nd to raise money for local cancer research.
